Jolly’s First thoughts of a Proposal for Attendance/Participation Tracking,      1/25/12

1.       Each faculty member is asked to define attendance/participation in his/her syllabus.

2.       The committee supplies a couple of sample definitions of attendance/participation that we think fulfills the attendance/participation requirement of Federal Title IV and Veterans financial aid.

Here’s a stab at one.

A student will be considered as attending/participating in a course in any day/week in which the student

·         Attends  and participates in class activities,                          -or-  (inclusive or)

·         Submits papers/assignments that are due,                            -or-

·         Maintains a grade of C or higher in the course.

3.       The College maintains the current attendance/participation tracking system with refinements that the committee will still propose.

4.       Offer an alternate attendance/participation method with these characteristics.

·         Each instructor keeps attendance/participation records by the week.

·         These are reported once for each time the Federal or Veterans reporting is require.

·         Consider whether this reporting could be combined with the midterm reporting date.

This is all I have at the moment until Dave and I report to and get feedback from the Senate meeting on Feb 2, 2012.
