James Stewart has provided on his web page some very informative animated diagrams and homework hints to illustrate some of the more difficult concepts.  Here's the link:

Click the book we are using: Calculus 6E,   click TEC,   wait while it loads,  
(If orange Java 3D icon appears the first time, click it to install Java on your computer following the instructions.  Re-start browser.)
Click the book we're using again,   

(A) For visuals, click Browse Visuals and Modules,   click the chapter,    click the visual you wish to watch,    click all of the buttons to see what's going on.    The one's from chapter 17 are especially revealing.

(B) For homework hints, click Browse Homework Hints.
