Chapter 6 focuses on the court systems and case law.  It deals with the concept of jurisdiction which is and important aspect of law.  An increasingly significant feature of the American legal system is Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR).  In this chapter the student focuses on the types and use of ADR in  our legal system, as well as, the paralegal's role in ADR.  Please take time with this chapter.  The material is important for the remaining courses you will take in the program.

Do not emphasize pages 186 - 188 concerning the State Court System.  Read it for an overview but we will cover the Maryland Court System.

Not Required: Jurisdiction in Cyberspace, pages 181-182.

Prior to attempting this question I would suggest that you do assignment #2 first.  Then you will have the sections of the Maryland code that will help you answer the state questions.

Complete:   Practice Questions and Assignments #1, 2,3,4,5, 6,7, 9, and 10 pages 208 - 209.  Answer the questions that relate to state law based on Maryland
Format: Write a separate paragraph fully explaining the answer to each question.  Make sure you do not plagiarize.  Quote when you use someone else's words.  If you use the Maryland Code please try to cite the section you used properly.
Insert: The answers into both the Federal Court System and Maryland Court System sections of  your Paralegal Reference Manual.
