Introduction
to Paralegal
Studies
Module
2

Module 2 consists
of chapters 5 and 6. In this module the student will concentrate on
learning the sources of American Law, the state and federal court systems,
and a small amount of procedural law. The information in the
following two chapters is crucial to success in the remainder of the
paralegal program. a student must take time and make sure he/she
understands the material thoroughly. In module 3 students will need
to constantly refer back to this information.
Chapter
5 explains the
definition of law and the sources of American Law both Federal and
State. Federal and State Constitutions, Federal and Statutory Law,
Federal and State Case Law, Federal and State Administrative Law are
all discussed. Missing is the law created by the Executive Branch of
government. I will include information on the executive branch
because I believe it is necessary to have a more complete understanding of
the American legal system. Students will learn this again in more
detail in BPA253 Business Law I and LGS 171 Civil Procedure.
Chapter
6 focuses on the
court systems and case law. It deals with the concept of
jurisdiction which is and important aspect of law. An increasingly
significant feature of the American legal system is Alternate Dispute
Resolution (ADR).
In this chapter the student focuses on the types and use of ADR in
our legal system, as well as, the paralegal's role in ADR.
It's now time to
begin Module Two, Chapter 5.
