Normal Distribution

A continuous random variable has a normal distribution if its graph is symmetrical and bell shaped as pictured below and if the curve satisfies a special equation.

The line of symmetry for the graph goes through the mean for the distribution.

The equation that the curve satisfies is rather complex and depends on the mean and standard deviation of the distribution. In this course we will not work directly with the equation of the curve. As a result you do not have to click on the subsection below to see the equation.
