The volume of the cotton candy certainly changes, from approximately 1 gallon down to about 1 cup. The mass of something does not change just because you change its shape or volume.
Finally, we must determine if the density changed. The equation for density is:
The mass stayed the same while the volume went down. Therefore the density increased. An example of this would be an object with a mass of 100g and a volume of 50mL. The density is 2g/mL. However, if the volume is decreased to 20mL, the density increases to 5g/mL.
